Coorg + Ooty Package — 2N/3D Nilgiris and Kodagu Combo

The route: Ooty → Mysore → Coorg

The transfer between Ooty and Coorg runs via the same road the Bangalore–Ooty circuit uses in reverse — down the Nilgiri ghat to Gudalur, through Bandipur National Park, into Karnataka at Gundlupet, past Mysore, and then west into Kodagu via Hunsur to Madikeri. Roughly 230 km, roughly 6–7 hrs with one meal break at Mysore.

Two logistics notes matter on this transfer. First, the Bandipur segment is closed to vehicle traffic between 9 PM and 6 AM to protect wildlife — we time Day 2's start so we're through Bandipur well before sunset, which usually means a 9 AM departure from Ooty. Second, Mysore is exactly at the halfway point in effort terms; a proper lunch stop there breaks a long drive into two manageable halves and gives you a chance to walk around Mysore Palace's exterior even if you don't do a full palace tour.

The final Mysore → Hunsur → Madikeri stretch is the shortest of the three legs but climbs into the Western Ghats and gets progressively greener. By the time you check in at Coorg, you've been on the road most of the day — which is why we don't try to add sightseeing on Day 2 evening. Raja's Seat sunset viewpoint is the only thing scheduled once you check in, and even that is optional based on how the drive went.

If you want to add a Dubare Elephant Camp visit, it fits on Day 3 morning before the coffee estate walk — flag it at enquiry so we adjust the timing on the drop-out leg.

The 2N/3D combo is priced as a full-stack inclusion — stay, transfers, sightseeing logistics, driver, tolls, permits — not as a stay-plus-airport-transfer skeleton. Here's the actual list.

What you'll actually see in Coorg

Coorg's hill sights sit close together around Madikeri, which is why a single Day 3 morning is enough to cover the essentials. The list below is what we actually route through — no filler viewpoint padding.

Coffee estate walking access is included; tastings, roastery tours and full factory visits vary by estate and are quoted per booking (some estates only accept groups; others open only during harvest window). Bylakuppe's Namdroling (Golden) Temple is a working monastery — visitors are welcome, but photography rules apply inside the main shrine.

Best time for the Ooty + Coorg combo

• October to March — the honest sweet spot. Both hills are dry, roads are open, tea and coffee estates are at peak visual condition. December is coldest on the Ooty side (nights near 5°C). The coffee harvest window on the Coorg side runs roughly November to January for arabica — you'll see the picking activity if you visit then.
• April to May — summer-holiday peak. Ooty gets crowded for the Flower Show weekend and Coorg fills with Bangalore weekenders. Rates climb; book 6+ weeks ahead. The transfer day is fine — plains heat is at Mysore, not on either hill.
• June to September — monsoon. Coorg's most dramatic season — waterfalls at full power, everything a deep green — but the ghats run slower and short landslides on the Kodagu side are not unheard of. Build a spare half-day into the transfer if you book in this window.

Departure-city routing

The 2N/3D combo can start on either the Ooty side or the Coorg side. The direction that makes sense for you depends on which airport is more convenient at your end of the trip.

Cab rates for the Coorg leg (Ooty → Madikeri drop) sit in the Karnataka one-way drop table on the car rental rate card — helpful if you want to sanity-check the transfer-day cost band.

How this differs from other Ooty combos

There are several combos on this site that overlap on the "two hills, one trip" idea. This page is the Coorg-specific one; the others are:
