Day 1 — Ooty
Pickup, Ooty sightseeing (Botanical Garden, Doddabetta, Ooty Lake). Overnight Ooty.

The shortest cross-state combo we run from Ooty — 118 km via Gudalur–Sultan Bathery, one accountable cab chain, two hills in three days.
The short version: the Ooty + Wayanad package is a 2-night / 3-day cross-state combo — one night in Ooty, a short 2.5–3.5 hrs transfer via Gudalur–Sultan Bathery (~118 km), one night in Wayanad, from ₹20,000 per couple on the comfort tier. Because the transfer is short, this is the compact version of a cross-state hill combo — Chembra Peak, Pookode Lake, Edakkal Caves, waterfalls, plus a full Ooty side. For the wider Tamil Nadu circuit, see the South India Hill Stations Package.
Two hills, two states, three days — but with a much shorter transfer than any other cross-state combo we run from Ooty. Ooty is the Nilgiris hill-town core; Wayanad is the Kerala Western Ghats — quieter, greener, wildlife-adjacent, with caves, waterfalls and one of India's most photographed peak treks.
The reason this fits into 2N/3D cleanly is the geography. The Ooty–Wayanad road crosses through Gudalur, briefly touches the Mudumalai reserve edge, and enters Kerala at Sultan Bathery. Even in unhurried traffic that's under 3.5 hours, which leaves both Day 1 and Day 3 as genuine sightseeing days. Longer combos to Coorg and Munnar burn most of a full day on the transfer alone.

The transfer runs down the Nilgiri ghat to Gudalur, west through the buffer edge of Mudumalai and into Wayanad's Sultan Bathery on the Kerala side. Roughly 118 km, roughly 2.5–3.5 hrs without stops. It's a genuinely scenic drive — reserve-edge forest for most of the middle stretch, then Kerala's typical greenery once you cross the border.
One operational note: the reserve segments (Mudumalai on the Tamil Nadu side, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary on the Kerala side) have their own vehicle rules and closed-window timings. We time Day 2 so we're not in a reserve stretch after sunset. Because the whole drive is short, this rarely creates a scheduling problem — a mid-morning departure from Ooty gets you into your Wayanad hotel with the afternoon still intact.
Sultan Bathery is the natural first stop on the Kerala side — most Wayanad hotels are within a 20–40 minute radius of it, and it's the base for the Edakkal Caves visit. From there the sightseeing spreads north-west toward Kalpetta, Chembra, Pookode Lake and Banasura Sagar Dam.
The 2N/3D plan below is exactly what we route. Because the transfer is short, you get real sightseeing on both hills — the usual cross-state trade-off (one hill gets a token half-day) doesn't apply here.
Pickup, Ooty sightseeing (Botanical Garden, Doddabetta, Ooty Lake). Overnight Ooty.
Drive via Gudalur to Sultan Bathery (~118 km, 2.5–3.5 hrs). Afternoon Edakkal Caves + Pookode Lake. Overnight Wayanad.
Soochipara Falls or Banasura Sagar Dam (choose one based on time). Drop to Kozhikode / Kannur or return via Mysore.
Day 3 forces one choice: Soochipara Falls or Banasura Sagar Dam. Both are worth a visit, but doing both plus airport-drop compresses the day. We pre-brief on which one fits your drop-out timing better at quote stage.
Full-stack inclusion — stay, transfers, sightseeing logistics, driver, tolls, permits — not just a stay-plus-drop shell.
Stay tier: 3★/4★ Ooty · 3★/4★ Wayanad (Sultan Bathery / Kalpetta belt). Property names are confirmed at quote time based on availability on your dates. Chembra Peak trek permit + guide is a separate add-on line, quoted when you request it.
Wayanad's sightseeing spreads across a 30–40 km radius from Sultan Bathery / Kalpetta. In a 2N/3D shape you won't cover everything below — the point of the shortlist is that these are the five we actually route to, not a padded list.
Chembra Peak needs a forest-department trek permit (daily cap applies — pre-book). Edakkal Caves involves a moderate uphill walk plus a rock-face section — flag any mobility constraints so we swap it for a viewpoint alternative if needed. Banasura Sagar and Soochipara are drive-in with short walks from the parking.
The 2N/3D combo runs cleanly in either direction — Ooty-first or Wayanad-first — depending on which airport is easier at each end of your trip.
Bangalore → Wayanad direct (~285 km via Mysore) is a common road entry. The clean shape: Bangalore → Wayanad → Ooty → Coimbatore-fly-out — one-way driving, open-jaw airports. Full Bangalore routing detail on the Bangalore to Ooty routing page.
Mysore is the natural mid-hub — either direction works from here. Mysore → Wayanad is ~135 km, Mysore → Ooty is ~155 km. Full detail on the Mysore to Ooty routing page.
If you're flying into Coimbatore, Ooty-first is the shortest first leg. Coimbatore → Ooty → Wayanad → Kozhikode-fly-out is the cleanest open-jaw. Cross-check on the Coimbatore to Ooty routing page.
Wayanad transfer-day cab rates sit in the Kerala one-way drop table on the car rental rate card — helpful for sanity-checking the transfer cost band before you book the full combo.
Yes — as a dedicated 2N/3D cross-state combo (Nilgiris + Western Ghats Kerala). The Ooty leg runs on our Nilgiri chain; the Wayanad leg is added via the short Gudalur–Sultan Bathery road so the same cab and driver stay with you across the state border.
About 118 km via Ooty → Gudalur → Sultan Bathery → Wayanad. That's 2.5–3.5 hrs — the shortest cross-state transfer we run out of Ooty, which is why this combo fits into 2N/3D without a punishing driving day.
The 2N/3D combo runs across three stay tiers, per couple twin-sharing: Budget tier ~₹14,000–16,000, Comfort tier ₹20,000 (default), Luxury tier ~₹30,000+. All three include one Ooty night, one Wayanad night, private SUV for the full inter-state circuit, and daily breakfast at both hotels — the tier difference is the property band on each side. Because the transfer is short, this combo runs cheaper across all tiers than Ooty + Coorg or Ooty + Munnar.
October to February is the honest sweet spot for both. June to September is Wayanad's monsoon — waterfalls at full flow and everything absurdly green, but Chembra Peak and some trek routes may close for safety. March to May is dry and warm; both hills stay much cooler than the surrounding plains.
No — the trek itself is a separate forest-department permit activity with its own guide and entry fee. The package routes the cab to the base; the trek permit and guide are quoted per booking (they cap daily numbers, so we advise pre-booking).
Coimbatore (CJB) is closest to the Ooty side (~86 km). Kozhikode / Calicut (CCJ) is closest to the Wayanad side (~90 km). Bangalore (BLR) works if you want a long-haul road-first entry via Mysore. Kannur (CNN) is a secondary option for the Wayanad end.
That's a Wayanad-only trip, quoted separately. The point of this package is the pairing — one accountable cab chain across two hills. If you're already in the Nilgiris (or planning to be) and want a short cross-Ghat extension, this is that. If you're flying to Kozhikode with only Wayanad in mind, ask about a Wayanad-only quote instead.
The Gudalur–Sultan Bathery road passes through Mudumalai (Tamil Nadu side) and Bandipur (Karnataka corner) and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary segments. You may see spotted deer, gaur or elephants in the buffer areas — spot-and-move only; the road is not a safari route and stopping is not permitted inside the reserve stretch.
Different destination side. Coorg (Karnataka, coffee country, 230 km transfer) and Munnar (Kerala, tea country, 250 km transfer) both need longer inter-state drives. Wayanad is the shortest of the three, which is why it fits into 2N/3D more comfortably than the other two.
Share your dates, group size and preferred start city — we send back a full 2N/3D quote (or longer variant) with hotel tier options and the transfer-day timing already thought through.
