Nilgiri hills — Mysore–Ooty–Bangalore circuit

Mysore–Ooty–Bangalore Tour — the 5-Day Circuit

A merged planning guide covering both the 3-city tour and the 5-day itinerary — because they're the same physical circuit on the same route.

Quick answer

The circuit at a glance: Day 1 Bangalore → Mysore (sightseeing). Day 2 Mysore → Ooty via Bandipur & Mudumalai (155 km, 3.5–4 hrs, must clear Bandipur before 9 PM). Day 3 Ooty town core (Doddabetta, Botanical Garden, Tea Museum, Ooty Lake). Day 4 outer belt (Pykara + Avalanche). Day 5 departure via Coimbatore (86 km / 3 hrs) or return leg to Mysore / Bangalore. Real underlying package: Ooty + Mysore 3N/4D combo from ₹24,900 per couple; the 5-day version adds one buffer Ooty night on the same route.

Why one page for both keywords

"Mysore Ooty Bangalore tour" and "Ooty Bangalore Mysore 5 days" are the same physical trip. Same three cities, same road (NH-275 via Mysuru–Bandipur–Mudumalai), same real combo package underneath. Rather than making you read two versions of the same itinerary, we've kept everything in one place — so whether you searched for the tour or for a 5-day plan, you land on the full circuit, the real driving times, and the same honest cost bands in a single guide.

What follows is built on the real Ooty + Mysore 3N/4D combo package — the honeymoon variant is our default framing because it's what most travellers book on this route, but the same itinerary works for families, groups and corporate travel; only the room décor and the candle-light dinner change.

The route: three cities, one circuit

Bangalore, Mysore and Ooty sit on the same NH-275 road corridor. Bangalore is the long-haul entry point (major airport, best flight connections). Mysore is the natural mid-point — palaces, gardens, an overnight break. Ooty is the destination — the Nilgiri hill station 155 km beyond Mysore via Bandipur and Mudumalai.

  • Bangalore → Ooty (end-to-end): 270 km · 6–7 hrs · via Mysuru–Bandipur–Mudumalai. See Bangalore to Ooty routing.
  • Mysore → Ooty: 155 km · 3.5–4 hrs · via Bandipur and Mudumalai. See Mysore to Ooty routing.
  • Bangalore → Mysore leg: the front portion of the Bangalore–Ooty 270 km drive. We handle it as a Day 1 transfer with Mysore sightseeing on arrival.

Because all three cities sit on one road, this circuit works as a straight out-and-back (Bangalore → Ooty → Bangalore) or as an open-jaw (Bangalore in, Coimbatore out — Coimbatore airport is 86 km / 3 hrs from Ooty on the south side of the Nilgiris).

The 5-day plan, day by day

The 3N/4D backbone is lifted verbatim from the real combo package (Day 1 Mysore, Day 2 Mysore → Ooty via Bandipur, Day 3 Ooty town core, Day 4 departure). Day 4 here is a new buffer day added between the town day and departure — Pykara + Avalanche, the same "outer belt" day used on our Ooty in 3 Days plan.

  • MorningOptional: quick Coonoor drive-through (19 km / 45 min from Ooty) for a final tea-country stop.
  • MiddayDrop to Coimbatore airport (86 km, 2.5–3 hrs — the fastest fly-out).
  • AltReturn leg to Mysore (155 km) or Bangalore (270 km via Mysuru–Bandipur) if you're closing the circuit.

Night 5:

Bandipur timing (the one thing that breaks trips)

Bandipur National Park is closed to all traffic between 9 PM and 6 AM. Both the Mysore → Ooty leg and the Bangalore → Ooty leg pass through Bandipur. If your driver doesn't clear the park before 9 PM you'll be held at the gate overnight.

Our Day 2 plan starts early from Mysore precisely to handle this — an 8 AM departure means you're through Bandipur by late morning, through Mudumalai by midday, and starting the 36-hairpin climb into the Nilgiris by 1 PM. Same rule on the return leg on Day 5 if you're closing the loop to Bangalore.

Where to stay each leg

The default rhythm from the real combo package is 1 night Mysore + 2 nights Ooty (3N/4D). The 5-day extension keeps that base and adds one more Ooty night for the outer belt — so 1 Mysore + 3 Ooty. No overnight is needed in Bandipur or Mudumalai for a standard circuit; those are drive-through legs, not overnight bases. If you want a wildlife-focused overnight, see the variants section below.

  • Mysore night: 3★ / 4★ hotel per the package's default tier.
  • Ooty nights: 4★ Ooty resort per the package's default tier. Upgrade tiers available.

What it costs

The real underlying combo package — Ooty + Mysore Honeymoon 3N/4D — starts from ₹24,900 per couple. That covers 3 nights (1 Mysore + 2 Ooty), daily breakfast, one candle-light dinner in Ooty, honeymoon room décor, private SUV for the full circuit, driver bata, tolls, parking and permits.

The 5-day extension adds one more Ooty night at the same per-night rate as the package's Ooty room block. Non-honeymoon variants (family / group / corporate) drop the candle-light dinner and room décor and are quoted separately — WhatsApp us for a per-group quote. For a rate-card-by-tier breakdown of Ooty stays see our Ooty trip cost guide.

Variants of the same circuit

  • 3N/4D version (shorter): the default combo package as-is — 1 Mysore + 2 Ooty, no outer-belt buffer day. Book directly on the package page.
  • Open-jaw (BLR in / CJB out): fly into Bangalore, road journey down via Mysore and Bandipur, fly out of Coimbatore. Skips the return-leg drive and works well for travellers with a tight south-India schedule.
  • Wildlife add-on: add one night at a wildlife lodge on the Bandipur / Masinagudi side and swap the Day 2 drive-through for morning & afternoon jeep safaris. Adds one day to the plan.
  • Coonoor split-stay: instead of the Day 4 outer-belt buffer, move to Coonoor for the last night for tea-country mornings. See our Coonoor travel guide.

Mysore–Ooty–Bangalore Tour — FAQs

Is the Mysore–Ooty–Bangalore tour the same trip as the 5-day itinerary?+

Yes — for the same three cities on the same physical circuit (Bangalore ⇄ Mysore ⇄ Bandipur ⇄ Ooty), we build a single 5-day plan rather than two near-duplicate itineraries. The 5-day version is a 3-night Ooty + 1-night Mysore rhythm extended from the real 3N/4D combo package by adding one buffer Ooty day (Pykara + Avalanche). A shorter 3N/4D variant of the same route lives on the package page linked below.

How much does the Mysore–Ooty–Bangalore circuit cost?+

The underlying combo package — Ooty + Mysore Honeymoon 3N/4D — starts from ₹24,900 per couple. That covers 2 nights Ooty + 1 night Mysore, daily breakfast, one candle-light dinner in Ooty, private SUV for the full circuit, honeymoon room décor and standard inclusions. The 5-day extension adds one more Ooty night at the same per-night rate. Non-honeymoon travel styles (family, group, corporate) are quoted separately on the same route — WhatsApp us for a per-group quote.

Can I do this circuit without the honeymoon framing?+

Yes. The route (Bangalore–Mysore–Bandipur–Ooty–Coonoor) is the same for families, friends' groups and corporate travel. What changes is the room décor, the candle-light dinner and the choice of stay tier. Send us your group profile and we'll swap the honeymoon-specific inclusions for family rooms, adjoining rooms or a group block.

What is the drive time between the three cities?+

Mysore to Ooty is 155 km / 3.5–4 hrs via Bandipur and Mudumalai. Bangalore to Ooty (the full end-to-end drive) is 270 km / 6–7 hrs on the same NH-275 route — so the Bangalore–Mysore leg is the front portion of that drive. Both legs must clear Bandipur in daylight because the park is closed 9 PM to 6 AM.

Is Bandipur really closed at night?+

Yes — Bandipur National Park is closed to all traffic between 9 PM and 6 AM. Both Mysore → Ooty and Bangalore → Ooty routes pass through Bandipur, so your driver must clear the park before sunset. We plan Day 2 with an early Mysore departure specifically to handle this.

Can I start from Bangalore and end in Coimbatore (or vice-versa)?+

Yes — this is one of the more efficient variants. Start Day 1 in Bangalore (long-haul fly-in from north India), do the road journey down via Mysore and Bandipur, exit Day 5 out of Coimbatore airport (86 km / 3 hrs from Ooty, more direct to south-India destinations). Ask us to quote as an open-jaw route.

What's the best time of year for this circuit?+

October to March is the honest window. Bandipur game-drive visibility is best after the monsoon; Ooty weather is cool and clear; the hairpin drive is dry. Avoid peak monsoon (Jul–Sep) — the Nilgiri ghat can get slippery and Bandipur sightings drop. See our best-time-to-visit guide for month-by-month detail.

Which cities can I fly into for this trip?+

Bangalore (BLR) is the primary fly-in for this circuit — full-service airport, good long-haul connections. Coimbatore (CJB) is the closest airport to Ooty (86 km / 3 hrs) and works as either fly-in or fly-out. Mysore airport (MYQ) has very limited flights and is rarely used. Open-jaw BLR-in / CJB-out is efficient.
