Christmas week (22–26 Dec)
The Christmas Flower Show runs at the Government Botanical Garden — separate from the more famous May show. Ooty's colonial churches (notably St Stephen's) hold Christmas Eve and Christmas morning services that draw both locals and travellers. Room rates in this window typically sit 20–25% above November.
New Year window (28 Dec – 2 Jan)
Nearly every resort in Ooty publishes a separate New-Year tariff that includes a gala dinner and (at most curated stays) an outdoor bonfire and DJ evening on 31 Dec. This tariff is non-negotiable and rooms clear out 8–10 weeks ahead. If a bonfire New Year is the goal, brief us by mid-October.
What to do in Ooty in December
The clearest skies of the year unlock the mountain viewpoints — Doddabetta sunrise is a genuinely different experience in December vs any other month. Cold-morning frost photography on the tea slopes above Coonoor is the other winter-only shot. Indoors, this is the month resorts fire up their fireplaces and outdoor bonfires — the mid-range and luxury tier stays lean into this as their signature December experience.
